International Women's Day 8th March ❤️ 👩⚖️👩⚕️👩🎓🧑🏫
Happy International Women’s Day!
Ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, we want to take a moment to recognise the women who have supported, inspired, & believed in us since day one. We are proud to be a female-founded business, & we continue to be inspired by our community. This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, reminds us that progress is something we build together, so we’re taking this opportunity to spotlight some of the incredible women we know & love.
Celebrating Lindsay & Harriet, Brighton Girl Award Nominees
We’re thrilled that two incredible women in our network have been nominated for Brighton Girl Awards!
Lindsey Clay, the force behind Connected Brighton, is a true connector, bringing the local communities & businesses together. As a member of the Connected100 Business Club, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Lindsay last year & we can’t wait for more! She’s been nominated for two awards at the upcoming Brighton Girl Awards - Brighton Girl & Community of the Year.
Harriet’s of Hove is a fantastic zero-waste refill shop with sustainability at its core. Harriet not only stocks our Cocoon&me craft kits but also delivers by bike, reducing carbon emissions. We’ve been connected through Brighton Chamber for a while & love her dedication to making a difference. She’s rightly been nominated for Retailer of the Year at the Brighton Girl Awards!
Our Female-Led Workshop Venues
So many of the incredible venues we partner with are female-led, creating welcoming spaces for creativity & connection. Just some of these are listed below
Hive Design Studio, South Croydon, run by the wonderful Jo & Felicity. After meeting at the Knit & Stitch Show, we’ve collaborated ever since. Their fantastic Croydon-based workshop space has hosted many workshops & private parties. We’re excited to return on March 29th for Arm Knitting & Macramé Plant Hangers.
Emma from Pitfield Barn Cut Flower Farm & Stable Kitchen is preparing the flower garden for the season ahead. We love hosting workshops at this stunning venue in Hurstpierpoint, & with the flower season approaching & the Stable Kitchen reopening on April 3rd, it’s the perfect Spring Day out! We are looking forward to our 1st workshop of the year at Pitfield on Saturday 15th March, which is our Arm Knit Blanket.
Jane from Know How You Sewing School has been a supporter of our workshops since 2019. Located at the stately Mansion House in Beckenham Place Park in Beckenham. They have established a thriving community of people who are learning to sew or improving their sewing skills. We will be at KHY for our Arm Knit Blanket Workshop on Sunday 6th April.
The Inspiring Holly Tucker
Holly is a champion for female entrepreneurs & we admire her dedication to creating positive change. For the past three years, we’ve proudly participated in her Colour Friday campaign, standing together with independent businesses that can’t compete with major Black Friday sales.
Holly is passionate about empowering women, believing that women don’t lack confidence—society lacks confidence in us. Did you know that just 2p of every £1 invested goes to female-founded businesses? Holly’s mission this IWD is to change that, & she’s asking everyone to sign her pledge here. We encourage you follow to Holly as she continues to push for progress. Let’s be mindful of where we spend our money & support the incredible female-led businesses in our communities!
Gratitude for the Women Behind Cocoon&me
Paula is so grateful to the incredible women in her life who’ve supported this business since day one. Whether it’s designing logos & artwork, offering admin & IT support, modelling, or being there to lend a hand at shows & workshops, her friends & family have always been there. If it weren’t for the love & dedication of these amazing women, Cocoon&me wouldn’t be what it is today.
Celebrating the Cocoonity
Our Cocoonity community - our followers are mostly made up of women, & we couldn’t be prouder. But of course, everyone is welcome to join us on this journey of creativity & connection.
What’s so rewarding about our workshops is watching people walk in with doubts like, “I’ll be the worst crafter you’ve ever had,” & leave feeling proud & empowered by what they’ve created. That’s what happens when we nurture confidence & create a supportive, encouraging environment. Our workshops are not just about making something beautiful—they’re about taking the time to slow down, focus, & celebrate our own creativity.
The Cocoonity community is all about lifting each other up, & we are grateful for the wonderful people who support us & our business every step of the way.
A Big Thank You!
Thank you to every single person who has supported us over the last eight years. Your belief in us, your creativity, & your unwavering support have been invaluable, especially as we face the many challenges small businesses are dealing with right now. Thank you for being part of the Cocoon&me story—here’s to many more years of growth, creativity, & making a difference, together!
